What this site is about?
My travels through Andalucia and beyond! Look out for the curve balls – visits to other regions in Spain or other countries. Written from the solo travelers perspective. That said, I hope what I share will have a wider appeal. I’ll make some suggestions and recommendations but won’t cover everything. Travel is about discovery and I don´t want to take away the joy of that experience, individuals see things from their own perspective.
I like to travel a lot, travelling costs. Sometimes going solo can be as expensive as travelling with a partner. With this is mind, I do things on a budget but I do have standards! I like quirky, original places but a clean bed & clean functioning shower are a must! Location is also key for me. Short breaks are a great way to re-set. Sometimes you don´t need to go far. You just need to take in a different view. My post’s will be “Snapshots” of the places I visit.
Bienvenida
I err strongly towards independent bar’s and cafeteria’s and will recommend those where I’ve enjoyed a good all round experience. As a solo traveler, being made to feel welcome and feeling comfortable in a cafeteria, restaurant or bar is important to me and I don´t mean the seating. People very often make the place! So hopefully, now you know where I´m coming from.
What’s the plan?
Wherever you go there’s lots of ‘ready made’ itinerary’s but if you really want to get the feel of a place and it’s culture, go local. Look for events and activities on the the cultural agenda of the town you are visiting. Access local resources most ‘Ayuntamientos’ Town Halls have a website a lot have a Facebook page. Access them, often you just have to be in the right plaza at the right time to enjoy some great entertainment. Wherever you are, don’t forget to look up!
My travel is often aligned to events, obviously linked to my interests. For solo travelers in particular, this can be a useful approach. It provides focus and structure. If you go out to eat solo, it will take less time than when you’re in company. I don´t think I need to explain why. If you go to an event, concert or show the program is the same.
I consider myself to be eclectic, so in my snapshots I’ll give a synopsis of events I’ve attended. Never close your mind. If you go to a concert or event and it’s not what you expected, take it for what it was, an experience. In Spain, municipal theaters and auditoriums, host great events & shows and the ticket prices are very affordable! Sometimes, things don´t go to plan. If something unexpected happens, role with it. You never no what making a change might lead you to discover. Eyes open for opportunity.
Authors’ note
Andalusia is the English word derived from the Arabic word Al-Andalus. Andalucia is the Spanish. You will see Spanish words (palabras) in my posts especially in respect of place names. It’s a fascinating language! When you’re travelling even if you only attempt the very basic pleasantry’s it will be appreciated. I may also gather information in Spanish & translate. If I do this – I will let you know, just in case anything is lost in my translation.
When will there be news?
Most weeks, I´ll add a ‘snapshot‘. During my quieter months, I’ll delve into my archives. How will you know where I’ve been? Follow Lindysquibbsontour05 on Instagram to discover when my most recent destinations have been posted.
